Announcing new CAL (Crochet Along): VINGA Crochet Belted Cape Pattern
Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 11:44AM
I am happy to announce a brand-new CAL (Crochet Along) for the month of March 2012! I am hosting the 12 Crochet Shawls of 2012 on Ravelry this month and was asked to host a CAL for the event. I chose to crochet a new sample of my VINGA Crochet Belted Cape Pattern, using Bijou Basin Ranch's Llasa Wilderness (yak/bamboo blend) yarn in one of their beautiful handdyed colors.
In celebration of the event, Bijou Basin Ranch is offering a 25% off sale of the kit to make this exact project, in any of their beautiful colors. Click on this link for the SALE INFO. At the checkout, enter VINGACAL in the code box for the 25% off coupon!
I chose this yarn for the project for a couple of reasons. I wanted a light sport-weight yarn with lots of drape (blocked yak) and some sheen (inherent property of bamboo) to make a dressier garment for wearing over dresses. I am a HUGE fan of the belted cape and think this is my favorite silhouette for knit or crochet wraps. Due to the fact that you will always have wide billowy sleeves that are wider than your waist, it is the illusion of a thinner waist! I LOVE optical illusions -- especially ones that make me feel thinner than I am. As many of you may already know, my weight fluxuates a lot - I've been anywhere from a size 16 to an 8 since I started working on Knitting Daily TV. Belted capes have been my favorite garment to wear on the show since the beginning because no matter my size, the illusion of wider sleeves to waist (and adjusting the waist to my comfort level) always makes me feel I'm wearing a flattering silhouette.
To get started, join the Ravelry group 12 Shawls in 2012 or Kristin Omdahl Designs, choose your pattern (any of my crochet shawl patterns or VINGA specifically ), order your yarn and in the next couple of days I'll be posting about the first rows of the pattern!!
